I was first introduced to using a lame at a sour dough bread class I attended and had to get one for myself. Oh my goodness! This tool is so easy to use and fun! It cuts like butter and is so smooth. I’ve been experimenting with different designs and the possibilities are endless. I had previously tried using a knife and it was a disaster. I highly recommend getting one of these tools if you are a sour dough baker.

This is one of those tools that is a must have for anyone baking sourdough bread. It has a quality wooden handle and stainless steel rod to hold the razor blades in place for cutting. They include 10 razor blades in all, as well as a leather cover for the installed blade for safe storage. I’ve tried using just a standard razor blade held in my hand , an extremely sharp paring knife, and nothing worked as well as this bread lame. I don’t know why I waited so long to get one.

This is a fun tool that requires absolutely no training (except how to put the blade on, and there’s a little instruction sheet with a picture, takes 5 seconds). You just score your bread before the final rise, and let time and your oven do the rest. Yes, if you want something awesome you can watch videos and look at pictures – I know I will! But it was nice to be able to use this right away and get a feel for how it works. The tool itself is easy to hold. The size and weight are perfect for moving the lame over your bread at whatever angle you want. It comes with plenty of spare blades as well as a leather pouch to cover the blade you’ve already put on. I know I will have many hours of enjoyment from this tool – I’d highly recommend this, once I get more practice I can’t wait to make personalized bread for my friends!
